What's it About>
A fun and friendly event for students, the NEUCC has been arranged in partnership between Newcastle Mountaineering Club, Sports Central (the Northumbria University Sports Centre), Climb Newcastle and other regional universities. The event will give the opportunity for clubs to select their BUCS teams (deadline 16th February for 2012 event) or simply to practice under the same format for individual and team participants that they will encounter at the BUCS national event. The event will also promote the friendly competition of many more club members than the national event where only an elite few can participate.
Format:
The event will consist of 25 boulder problems, consisting of 9 easy climbs (4c/5a - fb 3-6a), 8 medium climbs (5b/5c - fb 6a-6c), 8 hard climbs (6a,6b,6c - fb 7a-7c), each competitor will get 3 goes at each problems, with 10 points awarded for a successful 1st attempt, 7 for a 2nd attempt, 4 for a 3rd attempt. There will be 3 hours in which to try the problems.
Rules:
The event will be open to all students at Universities in the North East of England (Northumberland, County Durham, Tyne and Wear and Teesside). Students from other universities are welcome to join in the event but their scores will not be placed in the final rankings.
No prior-registration will be required for the event, registration on the day will open an hour before climbing begins. Mirroring the BUCS national event, the format will incorporate a team and individual contest. Every participant will be entered automatically into the individual event but teams (which are to be of 3 in size, all from the same institution and of mixed gender - 2 male 1 female or 2 female 1 male) must be arranged and entered during the registration period. Each university can enter as many teams as they wish.
The team event is intended to be a fun part of the day (you are invited to come up with your own team names for example) but also to encourage the same teamwork required for the national event.
Students must bring a valid student ID for their institution with them on the day and present it on registration. The judge for the event will be Chris Graham of Climb Newcastle. The judge's decision is final.
